IWME: More Flexible Residency Criteria for Broader Access

At Humania Assurance, we continuously evolve our insurance solutions to reflect the realities of today’s society. As mobility and immigration patterns change, access to financial protection must remain adaptable. That is why we have updated the residency criteria associated with IWME products, making them clearer, more flexible and more inclusive.

Adapting to Canada’s Changing Landscape

Canada welcomes a growing number of newcomers each year, many of whom face unique financial realities during their first years of settlement. Traditional eligibility requirements can sometimes limit access to insurance, despite real protection needs.

By revisiting IWME’s residency criteria, Humania aims to remove unnecessary barriers and provide advisors with solutions that better align with the evolving needs of their clients.

What’s New

Several adjustments have been made to simplify eligibility:

  • The minimum residency period has been reduced to two years, instead of three.
  • Eligibility for government benefit programs is no longer required, allowing broader access.
  • The definition of “temporary resident” has been clarified, reducing ambiguity and interpretation differences.

These enhancements support a smoother experience for both advisors and policyholders.

Benefits for Advisors

For advisors, these changes translate into greater flexibility and opportunity:

  • Expanded eligibility for newly established clients in Canada
  • More relevant solutions for profiles that previously didn’t meet residency criteria
  • Stronger advisory positioning in financial protection planning

A Continued Commitment to Inclusive Solutions

With IWME’s updated residency criteria, Humania reaffirms its commitment to developing insurance solutions that reflect real-life journeys.
